GYE NYAME

GYE NYAME

“Except God”

Symbol of Supremacy

A symbol expressing the omnipotence of God. Probably the most popular Adinkra symbol. God is regarded as the creator and the ruler of the world and humanity, therefore he must be reverenced and worshipped.

Background
God is placed above all other lesser gods, dieties and ancestors. In certain cases God is regarded as the “Overlord” of all who should be approached directly. Because of God’s supremacy, all requests are routed through the lesser gods by their priest and priestesses who serve as intermediaries to him.

Moral Value
This symbol reflects the supremacy, power and dominion of God over all situations and creations. He is therefore regarded as the immortal, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. This is a symbol of the supremacy of God.
